PTA partnerships essential for electric bus success, says VDL

The Netherlands-based bus manufacturer says that compared to diesels, selling electric buses involves far more than simply handing over the keys to operators

VDL Bus and Coach has put more electric buses on the road in Europe than any other OEM, with the current total at around 230. But as is the case with any new technology rollout, the company has had to work hard to familiarise customers with new concepts. Alex de Jong is Business Manager for Public Transport at VDL Bus and Coach, and responsible for tendering in active markets, including much of Europe and parts of the Middle East. As he explains, VDL considers itself a ‘transition partner’ whose job it is to help public transport authorities (PTA), service operators and other stakeholders make the jump to e-mobility.
