Public acceptance essential for platooning success, says DAF

The trucking industry has a few issues to address before rolling out platooning tech, and it will need to ensure it does this with minimal disruption to other road users. By Xavier Boucherat

The possibility of platooning within the heavy-duty commercial vehicle (CV) sector is moving ever closer to reality. Using a combination of connected sensors, video and voice communication and autonomous driving features, it will allow trucks to safely drive within very short distances of each other. The resulting reduction in air resistance brings greater fuel economy, and with future emissions targets looming for the trucking industry, this is enough to make it an extremely attractive proposition.
