Remote control trucks – a human safety net for AVs?

With full autonomous trucking still a long way off, could systems such as remote control and tele-operated driving provide a safety net for the autonomous truck? By Jack Hunsley

On the face of it, autonomous vehicles present a very promising future for the commercial vehicle sector. The prospect of being able to automate thousands of miles of regularly used taxi, bus and trucking routes could allow companies to save substantial amounts of money, and help reduce their carbon footprint. However, exactly how the industry can reach this future is as of yet unclear.
