For the third time in its history, the Netherlands’ Data Protection Authority (DPA) has penalised Uber. On 26 August 2024, the ride-hailing platform was hit with a record fine of €290m (US$324m) for violations of the EU’s data protection laws by transferring the sensitive personal data of its drivers to its US headquarters without proper safeguards.
