Simulation gaining traction, but physical testing still valid

Alternatives to physical testing are becoming normalised in an industry that is moving away from the traditional and physical, and towards the digital and virtual. By Celeste Dooley

Simulation is becoming an increasingly accepted aspect of manufacturing. The divergence from traditional physical testing, which can be inconvenient and expensive, towards algorithm and screen-based testing, could change the way in which different powertrains are developed and the speed of their adoption in the market.

A number of companies, including Exa and AVL, are striving to encourage OEMs to move away from traditional methods of testing and to take a more digital approach, one that has proven itself as effective as the former.
