Whilst Alcoa’s Q1 results underline turbulence in the global aluminium industry, they’re also testament to the material’s continuing success in the automotive industry. Now the pressure is on for the lightweight metals manufacturer to complete the separation of its upstream and specialised businesses into two separate firms. The latter, which will include the automotive side of the business, will be called Arconic.
