Stellantis halts plants in Canada, Mexico; lays off US staff

Following confirmation of Trump’s auto import tariffs, Stellantis is temporarily laying off US workers as international operations pause. By Will Girling

US President Donald Trump proclaimed his tariff policies a bulwark for domestic manufacturing, but Stellantis is already on damage control. On 3 April 2025, the automaker announced that it was “temporarily” laying off 900 US workers at five sites across Michigan and Indiana. These facilities are involved in powertrain and stamping work.
