Suiting up: Ford tinkers with wearable tech at Valencia

The OEM has been trialling a smartphone app that improves the Valencia plant’s checking process. By Xavier Boucherat

Ford has announced it is trialling wearable tech for workers at its plant in Valencia, Spain. The devices will allow workers to strap smartphones to their arms and interact with an app designed to ensure quality before a vehicle leaves the factory. The portable quality assurance device replaces a paper and desktop system, which required workers to write down figures and input them into a desktop PC individually. The new system reportedly saves workers walking up to 1km (0.62 miles) a day.
