All talk? Tesla’s plans unlikely at best, say industry figures

Brimming with confidence, Elon Musk has announced plans to bring forward Tesla's 500k target to 2018. By Xavier Boucherat

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has never been one to shy away from bold claims, particularly when it comes to the OEM’s future manufacturing prowess. The original plan was to boost overall production to half a million units by 2020, already an ambitious target, but in a recent earnings call Musk told analysts that with such a “tremendous amount of interest” in the Model 3, Tesla now wants to hit that figure in half the time, by 2018.
