Tempers flare as Ford announces new Mexican plant

The OEM has angered the UAW with plans to build a new factory south of the border, but says its commitment to the US remains strong. By Xavier Boucherat

Ford has announced it will invest US$1.6bn in a new small car plant in San Luis Potosi State, Mexico. Construction begins summer 2016, and the first cars are expected to roll off the line during 2018. The factory will create 2,800 jobs by 2020.
