The move towards a connected, autonomous, shared and electric (CASE) future is rewriting the rulebook for functional safety. Systems once unrelated to safety are increasingly incorporating new functionality in this area or are now linked to occupant protection- and security-related functions through a new electrical/electronic (E/E) architecture. This raises some significant questions about safety certification policies.
