‘Think outside the box’ to improve restraint systems – Euro NCAP

Euro NCAP’s Secretary General believes there is scope for significant improvements in passenger restraint systems. By Freddie Holmes

Although the adoption of active safety systems is being actively encouraged by safety agencies around the world, some have suggested that more can be done to improve systems that have been a staple for decades. Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of the European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP), believes incremental improvements to passenger restraint systems will be seen in coming years. However, he pointed out that although there may be no leap in advancements, such changes are not simple. He anticipates that “tailor made performance” will become apparent.
