The thinner the better: trucking prepares for new oil categories

For several years, Shell has been preparing new oils for the truck industry that meet the demanding new PC-11 category due to come into force in December 2016. By Xavier Boucherat

Like much of the industry, Shell agrees that oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and particulate emissions in heavy-duty applications have been largely brought under control through a combination of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and diesel particulate filters (DPF). However, heavy-duty engines remain one of the world’s largest producers of CO2.
