Time for a rain check on solid-state EVs?

Once a de factor leader in waiting, could the BEV sector do without solid-state batteries? By Jack Hunsley

The automotive industry is used to seeing fluctuating ‘hype cycles’ for emerging technologies. The most recent examples include the early enthusiasm for autonomous vehicles and the rise and the perceived decline in hydrogen’s potential as the de facto diesel replacement for heavy-duty vehicles. As electric vehicle (EV) battery technology advances, a growing school of thought is that solid-state batteries could be the next technology on this list.
