Truck platooning could potentially revolutionise freight movement. In theory, linking two or more trucks with connected technology and automated driving support systems makes for a more efficient convoy. Air drag is reduced, improving fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Automatic and immediate braking offer the promise of fewer collisions. At the same time, drivers are relieved of much of their responsibility and free to handle other tasks while behind the wheel.
