The United Nations (UN) General Assembly has announced its support for calls to ensure that all new vehicles meet minimum regulations for occupant and pedestrian protection, namely the standard fitment of seat belts, airbags and active safety systems. It says this represents “the strongest ever commitment on road safety” made by UN Member States, and supports “ambitious” global road safety targets.
