On 20 September 2024, the US Department of Energy (DoE) announced the approval of 25 projects across 14 states relating to advanced battery technology and materials, totalling US$3bn. The funding will serve to retrofit, expand, or establish facilities for mineral processing, component assembly, battery recycling, and other related activities.
