Vehicle technology future of rural road safety improvements

Britain’s roads are among the safest in the world, but motorists are still nearly 11 times more likely to die in a collision on a country road than on a motorway

According to Euro NCAP's EuroRap report, around 10% of Europe’s roads – the motorways, national roads and busy regional road network – carry the majority of all Europe's travel. The majority of those killed in road crashes die on these roads. Despite this, the number of people killed on country roads in the UK is 11 times higher than on motorways where the most fatalities are expected to occur. The UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) has recently discovered that many drivers are failing to anticipate dangers on the road ahead.
