VW’s Diess: “Progress on fuel consumption only possible with a high number of EVs”

Herbert Diess explains how electric and autonomous vehicles should silence today's industry critics and secure the VW brand's place in a rapidly changing environment, writes Megan Lampinen

The Volkswagen brand's realignment strategy is delivering results and preparing the company to help shape the industry's transformation. That was the message from management at the brand's 2018 Annual Media Conference in Wolfsburg, where Chief Executive Herbert Diess outlined his plan of attack for future success.

"I am confident that 2018 will be a very good year for Volkswagen," he told conference attendees. Deliveries are off to a good start, with global volumes up 6% in the first two months of the year. The brand is prioritising growth and aims to become the world's number one volume manufacturer by 2020.
