Nikola Motor Company hopes to rewrite the rulebook for heavy transport with its hydrogen-electric Class 8 truck. The first models are scheduled to begin testing with customers next year, but there's plenty of development work still to be done. The company has just announced a partnership with Wabco on the development of safety technologies specifically designed for electric commercial vehicles (CVs). On top of that, Wabco is investing US$10m in exchange for a 1% equity stake in the company, a move that it believes further positions it in the vanguard of technology innovation.
Nikola's Founder and Chief Executive Trevor Milton has described the supplier as "a vital business partner to enable autonomous driving, electronic braking, and stability control for trucks and trailers." Milton spoke to Automotive World about the significance of this latest member of the Nikola truck family and his expectations for the collaboration.
