When it comes to propulsion, the heavy-duty trucking sector is not due an overnight change any time soon. Diesel remains the fuel of choice, and the diesel advocates are convinced that latter-day clean diesel can effectively approach something close to zero-emissions: modern grades, according to the Diesel Technology Forum, can use up to 97% less sulphur, meaning reduced soot emissions of 10%, a move it compares to lead being cut from gasoline fuels. Used in combination with advanced engines, emissions control and biofuels, diesel looks to have a long-term future in trucking.
