The digital truck is evolving rapidly. Cabins are becoming a hive of digital information, with more sensors and cameras being used to provide key information to drivers, advanced assistance systems improving safety, and the human machine interface (HMI) continually growing in sophistication. Telematics solutions have long played an integral role in the digital truck, and although the technology has not changed for years, OEMs and fleet operators are constantly examining new ways to leverage it.

Speaking to Automotive World at the Telematics Vilnius 2022 event held in Lithuania’s capital city, Aliaksandr Kuushynau, Head of Wialon at Gurtam, outlines the numerous challenges facing truck owners and fleet operators that cause them to turn to telematics solutions. “Adoption of technology always comes from a pain point or usage requirement,” he notes. “It starts from a company realising that they need more transparency in daily business routines with their fleets. They either identify a specific issue, like fuel theft or misuse, or they realise that their fleet must be operating a certain way to ensure their business runs at optimum levels.”
