Will there ever be room for EVs in the German market?

Germany hoped to lead in EV adoption, but has fallen far short of its goals. German automakers are only now rolling out all-electric models. Will drivers switch? By Betti Hunter

The last decade was meant to be a renaissance for German auto manufacturing. In 2009 Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that the government aimed to have 1 million electric vehicles (EVs) on German roads by 2020. It was an optimistic goal, and it will not be met. Though EV adoption doubled in 2017, only 290,571 electric or hybrid vehicles were registered in the country at the beginning of this year.
