With competition heating up, public transport becomes more data savvy

For traditional transit operators, the pressure is on to remain relevant among a public quickly becoming accustomed to greater convenience. By Megan Lampinen

Governments around the world have been pushing for greater use of public transportation services to address road congestion and emissions problems. However, targets often fall short as many services have failed to keep pace with changing demographics and demand patterns. Some residents argue that city buses don't come to the locations they need at the times they need, or when they do, they are full. As a result, they take their car instead.
