All Citroën passenger vehicles are now approved in accordance with the WLTP protocol, which is stricter and closer to the actual conditions of use experienced by customers. In this way, the Citroën brand offers a wide range of high-performance and ethical engines, benefitting from the most efficient technologies like ‘Selective Catalytic Reduction’ (SCR) with BlueHDi diesel engines and ‘Petrol Particle Filter’ (PPF) systems with direct injection petrol engines. Choices that meet the requirements in force as of 1 September 2018, and which pre-empt stricter future emission standards.
“Inspired by our customers, Citroën’s ambition is to provide concrete responses to their daily concerns. In terms of fuel consumption and emissions, this means making strong technological choices and pre-empting regulations, thanks in particular to SCR for diesel and PPF technologies for direct injection petrol engines. It is also about strengthening transparency through the information given to the customer, via the process of real usage measurements entered into with T&E and FNE since 2016, and clear support for the new WLTP protocol. Offering engines approved by WLTP as of now on all of our models is for us a commitment towards our customers to be able to have models which are both high-performance and ethical, for driving with a high level of comfort”. Linda Jackson – Citroën CEO
From 1 September 2018, the approval protocol is changing to move towards a fuel consumption cycle based on actual use, which will allow customers to more accurately predict their fuel consumption based on the approved data. The new WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) protocol applies to all passenger vehicles sold in the European Union. It is based on realistic driving cycles that are as close as possible to actual conditions of use in terms of distance travelled, average speed, time stationary and temperature. These tests allow approved fuel consumption and emissions values to be obtained, which are more representative of customer use and the exact configuration of the vehicle. In addition, the results obtained on testbeds for CO, NOx and particle emissions are checked under actual conditions on the road.
Today, all models in the Citroën passenger vehicle range are approved in accordance with the WLTP protocol, thereby allowing the customer to have access to a full range of high-performance and ethical engines that meet their requirements as closely as possible.
In this way, Citroën confirms its brand commitment – Inspired By You – which is underpinned by its customers and attuned to their motoring ways of life. Keen to provide information that is as close as possible to reality, the brand pre-empted the new WLTP protocol through the T&E process entered into in 2016. With the goal of greater transparency and of always better informing its customers, Citroën has published the fuel consumption figures for its models on its website since 2016, with NOx emissions included from March 2018. Tests were conducted under actual conditions of use, in accordance with a protocol developed with two NGOs (Transport & Environment and France Nature Environment), and certified by an independent third-party body (Bureau Veritas).
With all passenger vehicles now approved in accordance with the WLTP protocol, Citroën has ensured the availability of a full range of engines, which is fully in line with customer requirements.New generation PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel engines keep Citroën a step ahead of the stricter future standard for 2020, and benefit from the most efficient technologies in terms of emission controls. Two of the most efficient technologies are SCR, on BlueHDi diesel engines, and PPF – a brand new particle filter system – on direct injection petrol engines.
