On October 31, 2014, ATA filed comments responding to a proposal by the National Transportation Safety Board to update the regulations governing the Board’s investigation procedures. The Board’s proposal intended both to clarify their investigative procedures as well as to divide regulatory procedures into individual sections concerning each mode of transportation. ATA’s comments recommended several means by which the Board can and should improve their investigation procedures, such as: including cost-benefit analyses as part of their safety recommendations; adopting uniform eligibility requirements for participants in an investigation; and requesting a Freedom Of Information Act exemption for information voluntarily submitted as part of an investigation.
