SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) today introduced its first SUV, the Baojun 560, at Auto Shanghai 2015. The latest Baojun model, which was developed by SGMW, is aimed at those who want a functional vehicle for their personal and professional lives.
The fashionable exterior of the Baojun 560 is based on the “trendy, grand and strong” design philosophy. A U-shaped mesh grille complements its V-shaped air intake with a honeycomb grid design for a dynamic effect. A sleek beltline and strong back-end design give it the identity of a true SUV.
With a length of 4,620 mm, width of 1,820 mm and height of 1,750 mm, the Baojun 560 has a spacious interior – true to SGMW’s desire to offer a “home on wheels” for families. In addition, its 2,750-mm wheelbase is much longer than the wheelbase of most other models in its segment. The rear seats can be folded in a 60/40 split configuration to accommodate larger items.

Designers focused on providing a comfortable experience for the driver and passengers. The Baojun 560 interior’s integrated panel design is complemented by seats in black and brown tones. Exquisite chrome accents add to the premium feel. The Baojun 560’s “double-barrel” intelligent dashboard offers a strong visual impact.
The Baojun 560 incorporates GPS, Bluetooth, FM radio and a CD player. An 8-inch LCD infrared touch-screen enables users to display information from their smartphones. The SUV also comes with push button start, a multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, folding outside mirrors, a six-way power adjustable driver’s seat, electronic constant temperature control, and independent air outlets and reading lamps in the rear seats.
Powering the Baojun 560 is a 1.8L VVT-iTECH aluminum engine developed by SGMW that is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The engine has lightweight aluminum cylinders to enhance fuel economy. It generates maximum output of 101 kW, which is equivalent to the output of 2.0L engines in most other locally built vehicles. It also produces maximum torque of 186 Nm.
The Baojun 560 is built on a Lotus chassis developed to maximize comfort and handling. Its rear overhang is 185 mm when the SUV is fully loaded, enabling it to handle various road conditions.
The Baojun 560 has many active and passive safety features as standard. They include four air bags, electronic stability control (ESC), the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), front parking radar and a backup camera.
The body structure consists of more than 55 percent high-strength steel. SGMW has adopted industry-leading thermoforming and laser welding technology for the Baojun 560’s production to ensure the highest level of quality and durability. As a result, the SUV is designed to meet the C-NCAP five-star safety standard.
