Catalan government Vice-President and Minister for Economy and Finance Oriol Junqueras this morning visited this morning the SEAT facilities in Martorell. Junqueras met with SEAT President Luca de Meo to discuss the company’s current affairs and the future challenges of the car industry, such as mobility and connectivity. Xavier Ros, Executive Vice-President for Human Resources, and Ramón Paredes, SEAT and the Volkswagen Group in Spain Executive Vice-President for Government and Institutional Affairs, also participated in the encounter.
After the meeting with Luca de Meo, the visitors toured the company’s Technical Centre to gain insights into the vehicles that SEAT is scheduling to launch in the future, including the three new models that the company is going to present in the framework of the biggest product offensive in its history. The group then visited the Assembly workshops in Martorell, the factory that manufactures the most cars in Spain, and went on to meet with the company’s union representatives.
During the meeting, Luca de Meo underlined “SEAT’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Barcelona brand and with institutions. SEAT is one of the country’s leading companies in terms of the economy and employment and is going to continue to support innovation and promote well-being. The investments we are making in Martorell and projects such as the first research centre in Barcelona focussed on urban mobility – CARNET, our participation at the Mobile World Congress and the Smart City Congress, or the SEAT Accelerator by Conector programme to accelerate start-ups are all testimony to our ambition and drive”.
Oriol Junqueras stressed SEAT’s “vital role” in the Catalan business sector. “SEAT is not only a leader in our car industry. It is the company with the largest number of employees in Catalonia, in addition to the thousands of indirect jobs it creates in the sector. SEAT also represents many of the values that make Catalan business proud, such as creativity, powerful export activity and a clear commitment to the ongoing process of innovation”.
