March 29, 2017 witnessed a dialogue between Chery and World Top 100 Technical Partners. Chery joined hands with GETRAG, the world’s top transmission supplier to launch its world-leading new type of electric dual-clutch transmission DCT, which marks Chery’s entry into global first position in core gearbox technologies.
The world-class technical innovation was displayed for the first time at the event, witnessed by Chery VP and Principal of Chery Technical Center Shanghai (CTCS) Raymond, CTCS Power-train Director Damien Sotty, DCT Platform Executive Supervisor Ciro Troisi of GETRAG Global, and media representatives.

Transmission plays an important role in power-train systems, the performance of which is crucial to overall vehicle performance. In recent years the global automobile market has developed more diverse needs for transmission products. Consumer groups are also becoming younger and more urban. AT is a worldwide trend in improved comfort. At present, AT is only available in a few specific markets and models. Nevertheless, the DCT perfectly balances fuel economy and comfort for drivers and passengers. It is extensively used in high and middle-end models. We predict that in the future DCT will set the pace for the development of AT throughout the world.

The Chery DCT was developed by the company in partnership with GETRAG, the world’s top supplier of automobile transmission and drive systems. GETRAG supplies products and services for Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes Benz, and other top brands. During the R&D process they relied on a quality-centered supplier management system and international supplier platform to ensure the reliability of DCT parts and components. At the same time the Chery DCT experienced the most rigorous conditions in countless strict tests of power-train compatibility in plateau, extremely-cold and extremely-hot environments before this world-leading product came into being.
The DCT jointly developed by Chery and GETRAG features many advantages, such as wonderful fuel economy, quick gear shifting and the ability to accept greater torque while providing a more efficient, stable and sporty driving and control experience. The all-new DCT will be used in the TIGGO 7 and other new models, ensuring that the TIGGO 7 takes the leading position among its competitors, including JV brands. It sets new standards for power, economy, comfort and other important indicators.
Thanks to GETRAG’s professional technical setup, as far as power is concerned the new-generation TCU has achieved a 0.2-second engine response speed and the best performance among same-class vehicles. With a power output of 96%, it achieves the perfect sports performance.
In terms of economy, it has the best thermal efficiency among all Chinese car brands. The E4T15B has a thermal efficiency reaching 37.1%, blending perfectly with the GETRAG DCT. This not only realizes an optimal driving and control experience, but also improves the fuel economy of the TIGGO 7 DCT model to the largest extent possible, achieving a 10% fuel saving with a consumption of only 6.3L per 100km, the lowest level among same-class vehicles.
When it comes to comfort, the Chery DCT adopts the latest clutch developed by GETRAG and incorporates the innovative K2 damper and materials with better thermal performance. With a comprehensive calibration setup, it effectively alleviates the abrupt sense produced by torque transmission, reduces driving noise, and ensures smoother gear shifting. As a result, the driver and passengers enjoy a more pleasant experience.
TIGGO 7 with 1.5T+DCT about to be launched
As the most representative SUV in Chery Era 2.0, the TIGGO 7 now provides 1.5T+6MT and 2.0L+CVT power-trains for its models on sale in China. The new TIGGO 7 DCT model will be launched soon, thus offering three forms of gearbox – MT, CVT and DCT – fully meeting the needs of younger consumers.
Relying on the T1X platform, the about-to-launch TIGGO 7 DCT, with 1.5T+DCT, will be more competitive, showcasing Chery’s rigorous technical standards in its positive development of new models, as well as the strict standards of Chery’s technical partners, and its ability to compete directly with other brands.
