Power management company Eaton today hosted a Forum on Sustainable Development with China WTO Tribune in Beijing, in which industry experts, representatives from government agencies and businesses discussed how to help promote sustainable development in China’s cities.
“In recent years, China has achieved very fast growth in its urbanization,” said Howard Liu, President, Eaton’s Hydraulics and Vehicle Group, Asia Pacific and Corporate China. “However, some urban problems such energy shortages, traffic jams and environmental pollution have emerged at the same time.
“China is an important market for Eaton, and we are working to contribute to sustainable urbanization in China,” Liu said. “Our brand promise is, “we make what matters work,” and that includes our dedication to making a healthy planet work. Through innovative power management technologies and services as well as our rich experience in the local market, we are working to improve the efficient use of energy and drive the healthy and sustainable urbanization in China.”
According to China’s 13th Five-Year Plan, China will develop harmonious and pleasant cities, transform the way cities develop, continuously improve the quality of the environment, living standards and the competitiveness of our cities. In terms of electric energy, electric power replacement will help to optimize the energy consumption infrastructure. By 2020, the total volume of electric power replacing bulk coal and fuel is estimated to reach the goal of 130 million tons of standard coal.
In the area of transportation, China is planning a new energy vehicle promotion campaign to encourage urban buses and taxi cabs to use new energy vehicles. Total sales of new energy vehicles are expected to exceed 5 million by 2020. The continuous upgrading of energy consumption is aimed to promote the transition of high-speed development of traditional urbanization towards high quality development of new urbanization.
Eaton believes that the realization of new urbanization calls for collaboration between various stakeholders. As one of a series of sustainability and energy efficiency symposiums in China initiated by Eaton since 2011, this year’s event was designed to create a platform for Eaton and its key partners and stakeholders to jointly explore the challenges in development, make use of green innovative products and solutions, help consumers make use of energy more efficiently and safely, and make contributions to the sustainable development of cities.
Eaton has also been recognized for its commitment to sustainability with a series of awards: a 2016 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Product Brand Owner Award honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Excellence Award awarded at the “Invest in Green Future” CSR Excellence Awards Ceremony and Summit and “2015 Excellent Case of Corporate Social Responsibility for Foreign Enterprise”.
Eaton also released its 2016 China Sustainability Report at the forum. It is the eighth consecutive year for Eaton China to release the report, which describes the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices and contributions in areas affecting the economy, our customers, the environment, our employees and our communities.
