DSM Engineering Plastics Americas, a business group of the global science-based company Royal DSM, announced plans today to expand its operations in Evansville (IN) U.S., creating up to 25 new jobs by the end of the year.
The Netherlands-based company will renovate and equip its 175,000-square-foot facility at 2267 W. Mill Road in Evansville over the next five years. With the upgrades, the company has added additional weekend production shifts and now sustains around-the-clock operations in Evansville. DSM’s increased production is allowing it to provide more efficient and reliable production of its high performance engineering thermoplastics, which are used in products including air intake manifolds, mobile connectors, food packaging and office chairs.
“Indiana is a manufacturing powerhouse. In fact, our state’s manufacturing sector is growing at a rate that ranks second in the nation,” said Victor Smith, Indiana Secretary of Commerce. “There’s a higher concentration of manufacturing jobs in Indiana than any state in the nation, and that’s driving international companies like DSM, which could locate these new jobs anywhere, to choose Indiana for job creation.”
DSM employs more than 25,000 people around the world, including 160 associates in Evansville. The company is currently hiring for production and maintenance positions, as well as several support and staff-level positions, paying an average wage above the Vanderburgh County average. This has allowed us to expand our operations quickly and to respond to changes in the marketplace.”
As a global company, DSM operates more than 200 facilities around the world, including 40 U.S.-based facilities and two Indiana-based facilities in Evansville and Frankfort. Since launching Evansville operations in 1970, the company’s Indiana operations have expanded, with DSM now manufacturing thermoplastics for the automotive, electrical and electronics, flexible food packaging and consumer goods industries.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered DSM Engineering Plastics Inc. up to $200,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s investment plans. These incentives are performance-based. Vanderburgh County will consider additional incentives at the request of the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville.

As global companies like DSM Engineering Plastics continue to select Indiana for their growth, the State leads the nation with the highest concentration of private sector manufacturing jobs. One in five state residents are employed in the manufacturing industry, with about 8,500 manufacturing facilities located across the state.
