Ford Driving Skills For Life (DSFL) trained more than 200 young drivers at Colchester United Football Club’s Community Stadium last weekend. Over the two-day event, young drivers took part in hands-on, practical training sessions to help develop their skills by simulating real-world situations – all free of charge.
Will Quince, MP for Colchester, joined the young drivers as they participated in a range of training exercises including: speed awareness, distracted driving, vehicle handling and the simulated effects of drugs and alcohol.
“The different techniques we practised had good application to real life driving and helped improve my confidence when dealing with emergency situations – plus I learnt a lot!” Said Jenny Needham, a participant at the Colchester event. “It was perfect for those who haven’t driven in a while or need a confidence boost.”
New to DSFL this year, as part of Ford’s ‘Share The Road’ campaign, was the opportunity to experience ‘WheelSwap’: a virtual reality (VR) demonstration that allows the user to see the road from the perspective of other road users, namely cyclists and car drivers.
