The Freightliner Inspiration Truck – the first licensed autonomous commercial truck to drive on a public highway in the United States – has won a prestigious GOOD DESIGN™ award.
Founded in Chicago and organized by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies, GOOD DESIGN is one of the oldest and most recognized programs for design excellence.
The Freightliner Inspiration Truck was one of several thousand submissions from the world’s leading manufacturers and industrial and graphic design firms. For the 2015 awards, more than 900 new products and graphic designs were selected from over 38 countries and representing some of the world’s most visionary companies.
“The unveiling of the Freightliner Inspiration Truck was not only a triumph in technology breakthroughs, but also an impressive achievement in design,” said Mary Aufdemberg, director of product marketing for Freightliner Trucks. “The GOOD DESIGN award is a great recognition for the many people who contributed to taking this truck from concept to reality.”
Unveiled in May 2015 at the Hoover Dam, the Freightliner Inspiration Truck is a realistic vision of the future in trucking. It combines the latest technological developments already deployed in today’s on-highway trucks with new breakthroughs in safety and connectivity.
