Garrett turbo tech supports Europe’s 2020 Car of the Year winner – the Peugeot 208

Garrett turbo solutions help improve powertrain performance and fuel economy and help reduce emissions versus a non-turbocharged equivalent. The winning Peugeot 208 is a based on the company’s lightweight flexible architecture uderpinning the B segment hatchback which has gas, diesel and battery electric powertrains. According to Peugeot’s web site, 110,000 customers have ordered the popular Peugeot 208 in Europe since its recent launch.

Garrett’s contributions to the Peugeot 208’s 1.2L gasoline version include a wastegate turbocharger enabling benchmark performance for a 3-cylinder engine that has become the gold standard for such applications. Currently supporting production of more than 1 million engines per year, this turbocharger provides excellent reliability and this generation features improved aerodynamics leading to a 20 percent inertia reduction resulting in improved transient response. The turbo design also helps balance CO2 emissions through advanced electric actuation controls.

Garrett is also proud to have supported two additional nominees with its gasoline turbo technologies which competed for the prestigious award in 2020, the Renault Clio and the BMW 1-Series.
