GAZ Group, a part of Basic Element, Russia’s largest diversified industrial holding, certified a LIAZ bus for compliance with United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) regulation No. 107. Vehicles certification in compliance with international regulations will expand the company’s capabilities with regards to promoting products in export markets.
GAZ Group certified a LIAZ-529222 low-floor city bus for compliance with UNECE Regulation No. 107 (an international regulation governing technical uniformity and safety of vehicles). The new generation of LIAZ buses conforms to the requirements used for certification – a wheelchair ramp, specific distances between passenger seats, location of a special handrail, a driver call button inside the bus.
Earlier UNECE standards were amended taking into account the need to provide barrier-free environment for low-mobility passengers. This is how Regulation No. 107 came about. In accordance with this regulation starting from 2014 all the newly designed bus models must comply with specific requirements to access inside the bus for all passenger categories. As part of the certification process the bus design received additional improvements to ensure comfort of low-mobility passengers: an extra row of handrails and two dedicated seats for disabled passengers with guide-dogs were provided.
The state-of-the-art systems installed in LIAZ-529222 large low-floor city buses proved to be efficient during the Sochi Olympic and Paralympic Games: the old LIAZ-529222 version was used as a basis for designing LIAZ-529230 as a special bus model for the Olympics, which was employed in the public transit service.
LIAZ-529222 powered with a Euro-5 diesel engine by MAN is designed to carry up to 85 passengers and accommodates 23 regular seats and 1 seat for low-mobility passengers. The bus is equipped with a climate control system, video surveillance and fire extinguishing systems, digital tachographs and GLONASS navigation equipment. The bus’s renovated exterior and interior, the driver’s compartment are designed in accordance with international standards’ requirements to comfort and ergonomics. The bus’s low floor level ensures easy passenger embarkation and disembarkation and reduces the route time by 15%. LIAZ-529222 is adapted for low-mobility passengers: it is equipped with a “kneeling” system (tilting towards the doors at an angle of 7°) and a spacious standing area.
