Administration of Nizhny Novgorod and Russian Machines Company, part of Basic Element, one of Russia’s largest diversified industrial groups, signed a roadmap of construction of an automobile gas-filling compression station for public transport in Nizhny Novgorod. This will be the second gas station which Russian Machines will build in Nizhny Novgorod: the first gas station is open today on the territory of the GAZ Plant of GAZ Group, and it started servicing of the technology park of the company, as well as municipal gas engine buses.

Administration of Nizhny Novgorod and Russian Machines signed a roadmap for building in Nizhny Novgorod of an automobile gas-filling compression station. Signing of the roadmap was part of the opening ceremony for the first gas station in Nizhny Novgorod, construction of which was implemented by RM CNG (part of Russian Machines). The station in the territory of the GAZ Plant was built for refueling the plant support service vehicles converted for operation on compressed natural gas. Also, the public transport in Nizhny Novgorod will be refueled there.

Construction of the second filling station will be a continuation of the Russian Machines project for development of refueling infrastructure for transport operated on the most economical and environmentally friendly type of fuel – compressed natural gas (CNG). According to the roadmap RM CNG will construct a new station, carry out supply the main processing equipment and commissioning of the facility. It is planned that the new gas-filling station will be opened in the third quarter of 2017.

The project to build a new station in the territory of Nizhny Novgorod is designed to provide an uninterrupted supply by gas fuel of transport of the municipal enterprise NizhegorodPassazhirAvtotrans – the city’s largest passenger carrier. In 2014, Nizhny Novgorod became a member of the federal program of supplying transport companies with buses running on natural gas. Under this program, the city acquired 144 LiAZ buses which will be released on urban routes in the near future. In 2016 and 2017 the administration of Nizhny Novgorod plans to buy around 500 CNG buses more.

The automobile gas-filling compression station RM-CNG is an automatic complex of technological equipment, including compressor equipment, air drying system, high pressure vessels, gas metering system, and system of irrigation and condensate collection. The basis of the technology is the newest oil-free compressor with capacity of 1,000 cubic nm per hour. The station equipment provides the highest quality of filling and purity of fuel, and also allows filling vehicles quickly and without queues: refueling of one bus in the station takes only a few minutes, whereas at traditional stations a bus is fueled for about 30 minutes.

Valery Shantsev, Governor of Nizhny Novgorod region:

– Opening of the gas-filling station at the GAZ Plant is a serious step towards conversion of vehicles to compressed natural gas. This is the fourth filling station in Nizhny Novgorod, and I know that GAZ is planning one more such station. Engines on gas-motor fuel are more economical and more environmentally friendly than petrol ones. Today we are taking all measures to ensure that by 2018 a half of the public, municipal and agricultural transport will be converted into gas-fuel vehicles, and to encourage people to buy cars with gas engines. I think that in the near future gas-motor vehicles will be deservedly popular, while today gas came to the GAZ Plant.

Andrey Chertkov, acting Head of the Administration of Nizhny Novgorod:

– The gas-filling station that we opened today is fully developed by the specialists of Russian Machines Company. Nice to know that the machine-building holding has one more direction of development, which will be in demand not only in Nizhny Novgorod but throughout Russia. This filling station will also refuel municipal buses. In addition, today we signed an agreement to build another such gas station in Nizhny Novgorod. You know that the municipality purchased 144 LiAZ buses running on methane – it will allow reducing the amount of costs and, most importantly, will improve the environment in our city.

Sergei Arzumanov, executive vice-president of Russian Machines for development of the CNG project:

– Development of gas-motor vehicles in Russia is one of the priorities of the Russian Machines strategy. GAZ Group, member of the corporation, is the leading Russian manufacturer of commercial vehicles on compressed natural gas. The process of a large-scale transition of the domestic urban transport to using methane hampers the lack of a modern filling station network. Construction of a new gas station in Nizhny Novgorod will accelerate the conversion of the municipal bus fleet to compressed natural gas, reduce the cost of passenger transportation, and improve the ecological situation in the city.
