Magna International Inc. has won a General Motors Supplier of the Year Innovation award for its unique process of laser cutting and welding front fascias for the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Magna leaders accepted the award at General Motors’ 25th annual Supplier of the Year ceremony in Orlando, Florida.
“We are honored to receive this coveted award from our long-time customer General Motors,” said Magna Exteriors President Grahame Burrow. “Magna has a proud history of developing new, groundbreaking manufacturing processes that allows us to bring innovative products to market.”
Magna’s laser cutting and welding process provides greater flexibility when making lower-volume parts and enables weight savings by using a thinner-walled component. It also removes the need for traditional punch/weld machines and saves on investment and floor space.
“We have the privilege to work with and recognize the industry’s most capable suppliers,” said Steve Kiefer, GM vice president, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “Through their valued partnership, we will continue to deliver the products, services and experiences our customers deserve.”
Magna also won a 2016 Innovation Award from the Society of Plastics Engineers for this process.
