MAN Truck & Bus is joining the Charging Interface Initiative. The aim of the association is to establish the Combined Charging System (CCS) as the standard for charging all battery-powered electric vehicles.
- The Charging Interface Initiative (CharIN) promotes CCS charging for battery-powered electric vehicles
- MAN advocates standardisation in the field of eMobility to achieve more flexibility and security for users
- From MAN’s perspective, the top priority is to coordinate charging communication for intelligent charging in the depot or in logistics centres for fleet customers
Standardisation is a prerequisite for flexibility, interoperability and security for vehicle fleet and urban bus fleet operators, and is also vital for the more widespread use of all-electric commercial vehicles. MAN Truck & Bus is therefore campaigning for the standardisation of interfaces and charging technologies and in this context, is actively involved in the Charging Interface Initiative (CharIN).
The association, whose 60+ members cover the entire automotive value chain, promotes the development and expansion of the Combined Charging System (CCS) as the standard for battery-powered electric vehicles. One of the measures undertaken in this context is the definition of requirements for the development of relevant standards. A seal for manufacturers who install CCS in their products is also being pursued. “Besides the harmonisation of charging capacities and CCS positioning, MAN Truck & Bus will be primarily applying itself to the topic of intelligent charging communication as, in the interaction with the bus depot and/or logistics centres, this constitutes an important interface with our customers’ fleet management,” explained Dr Götz von Esebeck, Senior Head of the eMobility Department at MAN Truck & Bus. “For the benefit of our customers, we are happy to be involved in coordination efforts at a higher sectoral level.” Thanks to its many years’ experience with electrified drivelines, MAN Truck & Bus is in an excellent position to provide transport companies and haulage firms with a practical and efficient solution in the eMobility segment as well.
