The PEUGEOT 3008 SUV Allure BlueHDi 180 EAT8 has been awarded Towcar of the Year 2019 by the Caravan and Motorhome Club in the newly created category of Caravan Weight 1,100kg – 1,350kg. In taking the award, The PEUGEOT 3008 SUV beat off new rivals from Jeep, Mitsubishi, Skoda and Volkswagen.
The judges’ comments on the PEUGEOT 3008 SUV Allure BlueHDi 180 EAT8 included: “Eye-catching interior and exterior, great fuel economy and a very capable all-rounder. The PEUGEOT scored highly in all the tests and its stability at all speeds really impressed the judges.”
Introduced for the 2019 awards, all competing vehicles were placed in the new caravan weight categories to make it easier for caravan buyers to assess which cars could tow their caravans. Cars were entered into classes using their 85 per cent of kerb weight figure or by their towing limit, whichever was the lower.
The 35 entrants were tested at the Millbrook proving ground near Bedford. Assessment included a range of static and dynamic tests, from evaluating boot space for bulky caravanning accessories, to towing tests on steep gradients uphill and downhill, reversing examinations and high-speed stability measurements.
Competition results were announced at the Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of the Year Awards ceremony, staged at the Royal Automobile Club in London. Trophies were presented by journalist and TV presenter Matt Allwright, known for presenting “Watchdog” and “Rogue Traders” for BBC TV.
“The PEUGEOT 3008 SUV has won a string of awards since its launch”, commented David Peel, Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK, “To have its wide-ranging capabilities recognised in the highly respected Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of the Year Awards is a real bonus. Like the 2008 SUV and 5008 SUV, the 3008 SUV is available with Advanced Grip Control helping caravanners with a series of driving modes to aid traction in a range of conditions including snow, mud and sand. Advanced Grip Control also incorporates Hill Assist Descent Control, improving control when descending steep gradients – a benefit for caravanners and anyone towing a trailer with a 3008 SUV.”
