On April 25, 2013, standards development organizations of China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) and SAE International conducted a full-day workshop at SAE Automotive Headquarters in Troy, Mich., to review collaborative opportunities in areas of common interest.
The meeting, attended by CATARC and SAE International committees’ technical leadership, focused on review of work in-progress and future development of critical standards.
As a result, SAE International and CATARC agreed to conduct harmonized technical efforts in Fuel Cell Vehicle, Hybrid Vehicle, Vehicle Battery and Functional Safety standards development. This will be accomplished through enabling participation on each other’s committees, series of regular technical reviews, increased awareness events of strategic direction in standards development, and collaborative research and technical exchanges in common areas of interest.
The leadership of both organizations, President Zhao Hang of CATARC and David L. Schutt, PhD, Chief Executive Office of SAE International both expressed their strong commitment for this joint initiative through the signing of a Memorandum of Intent during the SAE 2013 World Congress, held April 16-18 in Detroit. The Master Operating Agreement between CATARC and SAE International was signed by Dr. Wu Zhixin (Vice President, Electric Vehicle Sub-Committee of National Automotive Standardization Technical Committee Director, CATARC) and Jack Pokrzywa (Director, SAE Global Ground Vehicle Standards).
“This important collaborative step responds to global automotive industry’s product development needs and provides a bridge between SAE International’s vast technical knowledge and Chinese automotive market potential,” Pokrzywa said.
