SBS Transit is one of Volvo Buses’ most important customers and a leading bus operator in Singapore with more than 3,200 buses in its fleet. Since 1981, Volvo has delivered more than 2,500 buses to the company. With this order, Volvo has further strengthened its position as the major supplier of double-deck buses to meet SBS Transit’s new vehicle requirements from 2015 to 2017.

The order is for 415 double-deckers built on the Volvo B9TL chassis. The chassis will be produced in Borås, Sweden, while the bodywork will be made by Wrightbus and mounted in Singapore. Deliveries will commence in July 2015 and be completed by mid-2017.

SBS Transit has opted to equip the buses with Volvo D9 engines that comply with Euro V emission legislation that has been enforced in Singapore in January 2014.

SBS Transit Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Gan Juay Kiat, said: “We are always looking for buses that are not only operationally efficient and environmentally friendly, but are also comfortable for our commuters. We are happy with what Volvo will be delivering to us and hope our customers will be too.”

“This order once again underlines the strong relationship built up between SBS Transit and Volvo Buses over many years of close partnership,” says Steve Hedouin, Volvo Buses’ Region Singapore General Manager.

“The quality provided by the B9TL chassis combined with Wrightbus bodywork provides SBS Transit with an environmentally advanced solution that is reliable, best suited to Singapore demanding operations. This, together with Volvo Buses commitment to offer world class service and parts support provided the winning formula”.
