The UK has an opportunity to be one of the world’s premier development locations for innovative future vehicle technology, supporting our industrial strategy, and making vehicles that are safer, cleaner and more enjoyable. To achieve this, Government and industry will work together to create the world’s most effective connected and autonomous vehicle testing ecosystem, integrating existing proving grounds and public road test sites across the UK’s existing automotive and technology heartlands, strengthening existing capabilities and creating new ones.
As announced in the 2016 Autumn Statement, the Centre for Connected & Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) will invest up to £100m in new UK CAV testing infrastructure.
This funding has been agreed following a call for evidence run by CCAV which considers how the UK’s test environment for connected and autonomous vehicle (CAVs) can be improved.
The first competition was held in 2017 and resulted in the first four infrastructure projects .
To support the complementarity, integration and co-ordination of the facilities, a new organisation, Meridian Mobility, has been established. Meridian Mobility was created by government and industry to facilitate and support the acceleration of the UK’s emerging connected and autonomous vehicle sector within the global transport ecosystem. It will invest in projects that foster a culture of open innovation, bringing together the best of business and government to deliver cutting edge Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) infrastructure. Meridian will focus on key areas of UK capability in the global CAV sector including advanced development and validation, connected environments, data, cyber security and new service development.
Meridian Mobility 2 – CAV Data
The second Testbed Competition for Connected and Automated Vehicles, led by Meridian Mobility in partnership with the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) and Innovate UK, is being launched and is addressed to industry-led CAV data projects.
We would like to invite you to a Briefing Event run by KTN, where you can hear more about the scope for this CAV data competition and the application process, as well as networking with representatives from the automotive, telecommunications, transport, infrastructure, mobility, simulation and analytics industries.
Furthermore, there will be pitching opportunities for those that would like to showcase their work and approach in order to facilitate better networking opportunities. If you would like to be involved, please select this option on the registration form.
