America should be aware that new tariffs are likely to harm American companies and consumers, too. The German automotive industry will keep on advocating for free and fair trade and will oppose protectionism. Beyond that, the current situation demonstrates that an American-European trade agreement, consistent with WTO standards, would both be necessary and make sense.”
