Hino pleads guilty to emissions cheating, will pay US$1.6bn

Hino Motors has admitted it knowingly supplied “false and fraudulent CO2 emissions test data” to the NHTSA. By Stewart Burnett

On March 19 2025, Toyota-owned truckmaker Hino Motors pleaded guilty in the US to charges of committing emissions fraud in its internal combustion engine-based vehicles. The development brings the multi-year scandal to a close, with the truckmaker now set to pay US$1.6bn in penalties.
