Proton begins construction of its Malay EV plant

Proton will use the plant to satiate local demand while remaining open to exporting to neighbouring markets like Singapore. By Stewart Burnett

Proton has began construction of its electric vehicle (EV) factory in Malaysia, the country’s first dedicated facility for EV production. The project, now underway in Tanjung Malim, Perak, has seen around MYR 82m (US$18.8bn) in investment to date and will have a starting production capacity of 20,000 units annually.
