UK’s CCC: hydrogen has no role in road transport

The CCC’s seventh Carbon Budget report urges the government to prioritise decarbonising road transport through EVs instead. By Stewart Burnett

On 26 February 2025, the UK’s influential Climate Change Committee (CCC) released its seventh annual Carbon Budget report. The report was good news for electric vehicles (EVs)—calls were made for new incentives for charger deployment and EV purchases—but bad news for hydrogen, which it warned has little to no role in road transport.
