US Commerce Department launches probe into imported HGVs

The US Commerce Department under President Trump has initiated a Section 232 investigation to assess the national security implications of medium- and heavy-duty truck imports, as well as related parts and other derivative products. Announced on 22 April 2025, the probe aims to determine whether foreign imports of trucks and truck parts are harmful to domestic production, pose security risks, and in all likelihood, whether new tariffs are warranted.
